VMI travels to face the Naval Academy

LEXINGTON, Va. – Just a week removed from battling the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, the VMI basketball team will face another service academy Wednesday night as the Keydets take on the Navy Midshipmen.
 
Tip-off is set for a 7 p.m. start at Alumni Hall in Annapolis, Maryland.

SERIES HISTORY
VMI vs. Navy (2-23)
Wednesday's meeting marks the 26th time the Keydets and Midshipmen have faced off in the all-time series dating back to 1918. The teams last played last season in Lexington, an 80-72 VMI victory at Cameron Hall. The prior meeting in 2015 between the military schools resulted in a 68-62 win for Navy in Lexington.

* VMI is coming off a dominant 100-63 win over Clarks Summit last Saturday in which Taeshaud Jackson II earned his second double-double of the year and seventh of his career, earning season highs in both rebounds (13) and points (11). Freshmen Koree Cotton (18), Maurice Wright, Jr. (10) and Jaren Morton (7) all logged season-high point totals, and senior center DJ Nussbaum achieved career highs in rebounds (7), assists (4) and steals (2).
* VMI junior guard Brennan Watkins earned a career-high 29 points against South Dakota on Nov. 17, matching a career-high five three-pointers. The 29 points is tied for the second highest single-game point total in the SoCon this season.
* Watkins was named to the Arizona Tip-Off All-Tournament Team for his efforts against South Dakota and Northern Arizona

LAST TIME vs. NAVY - Dec. 3, 2022 - VMI 80, Navy 72 - Lexington, Va.
     Senior Sean Conway scored a career-high 28 points against the Midshipmen last season as the VMI basketball team upset The Naval Academy, 80-72, from Cameron Hall in non-conference play on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022.
     The victory is the first Division I win for first-year VMI head coach Andrew Wilson.
     Navy (5-3) finished 21-11 in 2021-22 and advanced to the Patriot League Tournament finals. VMI earned just its second win in the 25-game all-time series, the last coming in 2004.
     The Keydets shot a sizzling 56 percent from three-point range (14-25); including 6-7 from Conway and 4-5 from freshman Tyler Houser.

LAST TIME OUT - November 25, 2023 - VMI 100, Clarks Summit 63 - Lexington, Va.
    Junior Brennan Watkins delivered a game-high 20 points with five assists to lead the VMI men's basketball team to a 100-63 win over Clarks Summit Saturday in non-conference play.
    VMI scored the first 10 points of the game, but the Defenders tied the game at 18 with 10:48 remaining in the first half. The Keydets went on a 32-3 run just before intermission and held at least a 20-point lead the rest of the way.
