LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI Rifle Team held its home opener for the 2023-24 season on Saturday, facing 18th-ranked North Georgia.
North Georgia would take the contest with a score of 4651, as the VMI mixed team placed second (4528) and the women's squad third (4453).
Victoria Phillips had the best outing for Keydet competitors, firing a 1143 to finish fourth overall (583 air rifle). Christopher Hicks was just behind Phillips with an aggregate of 1142. Hicks posted a 579 in the air rifle and a 563 in the smallbore.
Michael Annesi posted the fourth-best smallbore score, firing a 565 to finish with a 1138 (8th). Ryan Harlow and Laini Morgan each posted scores of 1129 to place ninth individually, with Morgans 589 in the smallbore being the third-best score for that event.

The Keydets remain home, welcoming SoCon-foe Citadel on the 21st.
