Keydets to Face Western Carolina in Coaches vs. Cancer Game

LEXINGTON, Va.
– With the college basketball world celebrating Coaches vs. Cancer Week across the country, Saturday's SoCon matchup between VMI and Western Carolina will feature both coaching staffs donning suits and sneakers to recognize the cause. Tip-off between the Keydets and Catamounts is set for 1 p.m. at Cameron Hall as the schools face off for the first time this season.
 
The game will also feature a community food drive where fans can receive one ticket per canned food item. For example, a family can redeem five free tickets to the game by donating five non-perishable canned food items. There is no limit as to how many canned goods can be given to receive the designated amount of tickets.

Last Time Out
The VMI men's basketball team played one of the top teams in the Southern Conference tough on the road Wednesday night, but UNCG defeated the Keydets 62-50 at the Greensboro Coliseum. 
The Spartans, now 8-1 in league play, opened a 28-16 lead at halftime. The Keydets came out firing after intermission and used a 24-14 run over the first 10 minutes to cut the edge to just two. Freshman guard Tony Felder, Jr. scored 11 points over that stretch, including two three pointers. VMI stayed within five until the final 4:14 of play. 
The five Keydet freshmen combined for 42 points, led by Tony Felder, Jr. who scored a team-high 15 points with four assists. His point total is the highest output since scoring 21 at American on Dec. 13 and his career-high was 22 at Davidson Nov. 13.

About Western Carolina (11-11, 4-5)
The Catamounts are coming off consecutive SoCon losses to The Citadel and Samford this past week but earned a hard-fought 76-71 win over Wofford at home on January 18. WCU opened the SoCon slate on December 28 with a loss to UNCG, but proceeded to rattle of three consecutive league wins over Furman, ETSU and Mercer to gain momentum in conference play. The Catamounts have fallen in both contests to The Citadel this season.
Western is led by Tyzhaun Claude, who is averaging 15.1 points per game. Tre Jackson and Vonterius Woolbright are close behind with 14.1 ppg on the year. Claude also leads the team in rebounds per game at 8.3, while Woolbright has earned 7.1 rebounds per contest thus far.
