VMI Basketball Falls to UNCG in Cameron Hall

LEXINGTON, Va. –
A strong defensive effort by UNC Greensboro led to a 72-57 victory over the VMI men's basketball team Wednesday in Southern Conference action in Cameron Hall.

The Keydets bounced back from a slow start offensively to trail by only two (24-22) just before halftime, but the Spartans closed the first half strong and opened a 12-point lead with 12 minutes left in the game. VMI cut the advantage to 56-49 with 6:05 remaining but could get no closer.



How it happened
:
  • Keydet freshman Asher Woods netted a team-best 14 points, eight in the second half
  • Freshman Rickey Bradley, Jr. had a solid all-around game, scoring 13 points with a game-high eight rebounds and two steals. e sHHe shot 5-7 from the floor
  • Freshman Tyler Houser scored 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting
  • Sean Conway scored nine with seven rebounds and Tony Felder, Jr. had eight and three assists
  • Keydet freshmen accounted for 48 of the team's 57 points
  • Keyshaun Langley paced UNCG (10-8/4-1 SoCon) with 25 points, hitting 10 of his 13 shot attempts
  • Bas Leyte had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Spartans

VMI Head Coach Andrew Wilson:
"The guys battled tonight. We just couldn't find a rhythm offensively. Give UNCG a lot of credit. They are the best defensive team in our league and had a lot to do with our struggles on that end."

The Keydets (5-13/0-5) travel to Wofford College for another SoCon game Saturday at 7 p.m.
