LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's water polo team defeated visiting Siena College Saturday afternoon 18-14 on Senior Day in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action from Clark King Pool. Marist College outlasted VMI 14-8 earlier in the day.

While the program's four seniors were honored in a pre-game ceremony, it was a pair of the program's younger players that paced the team in scoring. Sophomore
Caragh Osborne netted a career-high six goals with two assists and freshman
Courtney Novotny tied her career-best with four goals.
The Keydets jumped ahead of the Saints early, taking a 10-3 lead midway through the second quarter. Siena cut the edge to four in the fourth period, but back-to-back Osborne tallies with just over three minutes left put the game away.
Maddie Berry had two goals and two assists,
Sydney Shettleroe had two goals and
Genevieve Petrassi recorded three assists and three steals.
Makenna Moore had a goal and two assists, while
Ellie Pickford,
Gia Donatelli and
Katelynn Riley also scored.
Katie Lloyd made 10 saves in net and also contributed with an assist.
Georgia Vargas had four goals for Siena.
#25 Marist 14, VMI 8
The Keydets hung tough with the 25
th-ranked Red Foxes in the opening match of the day. Novotny had a hat trick with two steals and Shettleroe had two goals and an assist. Genevieve had a goal, an assist and three steals while Moore had a goal and an assist. Pickford had two assists and Osborne also scored.
Shinae Carrington had two goals and an assist for Marist (22-11/9-2).
The Keydets (4-22/1-11 MAAC) will face Long Island University at 9 a.m. Sunday and St. Francis-Brooklyn at 3 p.m.
