Keydets Open SoCon Play this Week against Furman & ETSU

Game Notes | Game Program vs. ETSU

LEXINGTON, Va. – Coming off a close 80-77 overtime time loss to a tough Fordham team last week, the VMI basketball team opens Southern Conference play this week at Furman Thursday night and a home game versus ETSU Saturday afternoon.
 
The Keydets (5-8, 0-0) travel to Greenville, South Carolina, to tip off with the Paladins at 7 p.m. Thursday night at Timmons Arena before facing ETSU Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Cameron Hall.  The game Saturday is free admission to the public.

About Furman
Furman opens conference play 9-4 overall with a 6-1 record at home in Timmons Arena. The Paladins won both of their games at the Greenville Winter Classic, 72-70 over Stephen F. Austin, and 106-79 against Anderson. Mike Bothwell averages 20.2 points per game, second in the Southern Conference, and is also second with 4.5 assists each outing. Jalen Slawson also has high marks in the league thus far, ranking third in blocked shots (1.5), fifth in rebounding (6.9), and 11th in scoring (15.0). 
 
About ETSU
The Bucs have dropped five straight contests and sit at 4-9 overall. ETSU fell 72-68 at LSU despite 22 points and seven rebounds from Josh Taylor on Dec. 21. Jalen Haynes is averaging 13.3 points and 5.5 rebounds a game while Jordan King posts 13.2 points per contest. DeAnthony Tipler is just behind Haynes and King at 12.5, and the trio ranks 15th, 16th and 17th, respectively, in the SoCon in scoring.
