VMI Basketball Opens 2022-23 Season at Richmond Monday

Game Notes

LEXINGTON, Va
. – There will be a lot of new faces in prominent roles as the VMI men's basketball team opens the 2022-23 season Monday at the University of Richmond. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Robins Center in Richmond, Virginia.

Andrew Wilson will serve as head coach for his first collegiate game after successful assistant coach stints at James Madison University and Georgia Southern. He helped coach the Dukes to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in nearly a decade in his two seasons at JMU.

The Keydets
The Keydets return senior guard Sean Conway to the lineup. The 6-5 Fairfield, Connecticut, native averaged 7.5 points a game a year ago and ranked 14th in the Southern Conference with 5.6 boards per game.

Junior guard Devin Butler will be back on the court after missing last season due to injury and sophomore guard Cooper Sisco played well in limited playing time as a freshman. The Keydets also bring back some height in the frontcourt with senior Sam Wolfe and junior DJ Nussbaum looking to earn more minutes.

A talented freshman class will have opportunities to make an immediate impact. Guards Taeshaud Jackson, Asher Woods, Ricky Bradley, Jr. and Tony Felder and center Tyler Houser all should see quality minutes.

About the Spiders
Senior Tyler Burton was an All-Atlantic 10 Preseason First Team selection. The 2021-22 second Team All-Atlantic 10 honoree led Richmond with 16.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. The Spiders finished 24-13 last winter, captured the A10 title, and bested Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
