Keydet Wrestling Opens Season this weekend

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI wrestling team has a busy opening weekend to start the 2022-23 season. The Keydets host Southern Virginia Friday at 7 p.m. in Cormack Hall and travel to the Southeast Open on Saturday.

The Keydets return several starters from last year, headlined by 197 pounder Tyler Mousaw. The junior was named the team's Most Outstanding Wrestler at season's end and posted a record of 14-9 overall with five pins and two major decisions.

Senior Zach Brown returns at 184 after recording a 10-9 record before missing much of the second half of the season with injury. Jon Hoover will start at 174 again after sharing the Team's Most Improved Wrestler Award last winter. Freddy Junko (141), Josh Yost (149/157), Job Chishko (157) and Josh Evans (285) should be regulars in the lineup with a talented freshmen class looking to make an immediate impact.
