VMI Goes Cold in Second Half to Fall to Blue Hose

CLINTON, S.C. – After rallying to pull within five points at the half, the VMI basketball team went cold for the first eight minutes of the second half as host Presbyterian College pulled away for a 72-57 win over the Keydets Tuesday night at the Templeton Center in Clinton, South Carolina.
 
VMI (2-6, 0-0) trailed by double digits in the opening half but stuck together to keep the game close, going into the break trailing by a slim 42-37 margin.
 
Presbyterian (2-6, 0-0) took advantage of VMI's slow start in the second stanza to build an eventual 20-point lead with 8:10 to play.


 
Game Analysis
* Down 38-22 with 6:00 to go before the half, VMI put its bearings together to rally and cut into the deficit over the last five minutes of the half. A Devin Butler trey and Tyler Houser three gave the Keydets momentum as Tony Felder, Jr. and Butler added two more three-points in the final minute to pull VMI within five at the break.
* The Keydets missed their first 12 shots of the second half over roughly eight minutes for the Blue Hose to pull away. Sean Conway broke the streak with a three-pointer at the 12:13 mark to cut the disadvantage to 53-40
* VMI shot 45 percent (14-31) from the field in the opening half but dropped to 20 percent (6-29) in the second as Presbyterian clamped down with defensive pressure
* Asher Woods paced the Keydets with 14 points during the contest and fellow freshman Tyler Houser poured in 13 points
* The Blue Hose were led by 18 points from Crosby James and 17 by Trevon Reddish-Rhone. Marquis Barnett also contributed double figures with 15 on the night
