GREENVILLE, S.C. – Despite a goal from sophomore
Grant Martin, the VMI men's soccer team was defeated 2-1 Saturday night at Furman University in the Keydets' final regular season game of the year. The contest was very evenly matched, with the shot totals and corner kicks nearly identical.
Inside the numbers:
*Martin stole the ball from the Paladin goalie and tied the score at one all in the 34
th minute. It was his second tally of the season
*Callum Allison and Sam Miller scored for Furman. Miller's tally at 52:02 of the second half proved to be the game winner

Gabe Calhoun made three saves on the night
*The Keydets fired eight shots for the game and had five corner kicks

The 2022 Southern Conference Championship Tournament opens next weekend. The Keydets will face third-seeded Mercer University Friday at ETSU, with the winner advancing to play the Bucs Sunday in the semifinals. Complete brackets will be released by the conference office this weekend.
