LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI wrestling team won seven of the 10 weight classes Friday in a 29-10 victory over visiting Bellarmine University (Ky.) In a Southern Conference matchup from Cormack Hall.
The action started at 184 pounds, where
Max Gourley started the Keydets off with a 6-2 victory.
Tyler Mousaw followed with a 15-2 major decision win at 197 to give VMI an early 7-0 edge.
Josh Evans posted an 11-3 major decision victory at 285, and after two forfeit wins at 133 and 141, VMI led 23-4.
Luke Hart fell just 5-3 at 149 pounds, and
Seth Fillers followed with an 11-7 win at 157 to give VMI a commanding 26-7 team lead.
Blake Showers grinded out a 6-3 win at 165 to close out the scoring for the Keydets.
Both
Joel Diaz (12-4 major decision) at 174 and
Isaac Dolph (17-0 tech fall) at 197 scored big victories in extra matches before the start of the dual match.
VMI will face both Presbyterian (1 p.m.) and Campbell (2:30 p.m.) this Sunday in conference matches at Campbell.
