BOONE, N.C. – The VMI wrestling team faced tough competition Friday at the Appalachian State tri match, falling 33-7 to Little Rock and 42-0 to the host school in a Southern Conference match.
Junior
Zach Brown scored an 8-0 major decision victory at 184 pounds against Little Rock, and sophomore
Isaac Dolph followed with a 13-6 decision at 197 pounds.
Jon Hoover hung tough but lost 4-1 at 174 pounds,
Freddy Junko dropped a 7-3 decision at 141 pounds and
Josh Evans was defeated just 4-0 at 285.
The Keydets nearly scored a victory in the three heaviest weight classes against Appalachian State. Brown was defeated just 4-3, Dolph was outscored 5-3 and Evans was within striking distance, 6-3, at 285. The first set of NCAA coaches rankings released Friday included six App. State wrestlers
