LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI wrestling team will open Southern Conference action this Thursday, hosting Gardner-Webb University in Cormack Hall. The match was rescheduled from January 8.

Against George Mason on Friday, Keydet junior Zach Brown scored a quick victory at 184 pounds, defeating Kyle Davis by technical fall 16-1 in just 3:31. Sophomore Tyler Mousaw outlasted his opponent 5-3 at 197 pounds and freshman Josh Evans scored a takedown with just three seconds left in the match to force an overtime sudden victory session, but fell 8-6. Sophomore Blake Showers suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat at 157 pounds.

The Runnin' Bulldogs defeated VMI 29-11 last season in Boiling Springs, N.C., despite a 17-0 technical fall victory in 4:23 for Job Chishko at 149 pounds.  
There will be little turnaround for the Keydets, as they travel to Boone, N.C. Friday for dual matches against Arkansas Little Rock at 4 p.m. and Appalachian State at 5:45 p.m.
