Perouty Joins 100-Point Club in Loss at Jacksonville

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – VMI senior attack Ryan Perouty joined VMI's prestigious 100-Point Club in VMI's 18-12 loss on the road Saturday at Jacksonville.

The senior from Houston, Texas attained the feat on his second of three points on the day as he logged two goals and one assist.  He now has 101 points for his career and has registered at least one point in every game of his VMI career dating back to February of 2018, a streak which is tied for 18th longest in Division I NCAA lacrosse. Only 18 Keydets in program history have achieved the feat. The 101 points consists of 69 goals and 32 assists over his career. With only one more goal, he will join VMI's exclusive 70-Goal Club, which only 14 former Keydets have achieved.

VMI (1-4, 0-3) scored 12 goals in the loss to the Dolphins (5-3, 2-0), which is tied for the most goals in program history against Jacksonville (2011 and 2012).

"I thought our guys competed for an entire 60 minutes," said VMI head coach James Purpura. "I'm proud of the work these men are putting in to improve their fundamentals and overall games. Our extra man offense had a great game today going 57 percent, which helped keep us in the game. We struggled to keep pace with Jacksonville in the amount of overall possessions based on struggles at the face off X.

"Credit to their face off unit - they won possession of the ground ball 79 percent of the time which gained them an extra 20 possessions. We made some mistakes at inopportune times and credit to Jacksonville on capitalizing on those opportunities. We will review the tape, learn and improve on our mistakes starting tomorrow with a great day of practice."

The Keydets kept pace with Jacksonville through the first half, trailing by just a 3-2 count after one period and 7-5 at the half. The Dolphins pulled away, however, in the third period by scoring six goals to VMI's three then posted five more in the fourth period to VMI's four goals in the last stanza.

Sophomores Hartley Jordan and Scout Ripley both registered a hat trick in the loss followed by Perouty's two scores. Michael Santos, Jon Fant and Josh Drake also contributed on goal apiece.

The Dolphins were led by Jack Dolan, who notched four goals in the win followed by three from both Troy Hettinger and Curtis Goddard.  Matt Stagnitta, Jacob Greiner and Jeremy Winston each poured in a pair of goals to aid the win.

VMI capitalized on seven Jacksonville penalties by scoring on four of the extra-man opportunities. The Dolphins countered, however, by winning 26 of 33 faceoffs leading to increased time of possession.

VMI freshman goalie Jack Liselli earned his first career start and logged 14 saves in the loss while Jacksonville's Jason Yoquinto earned the win with 12 saves.

The Keydets return to non-conference action next Saturday on the road when they travel to face Cleveland State in Cleveland, Ohio.
