VMI Basketball Outscores Clarks Summit 88-40

Box Score

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men's basketball team scored 18 of the game's first 20 points and breezed to an 88-40 win Tuesday night over visiting Clarks Summit University (Pa.) in a non-conference game in Cameron Hall.

The Keydets opened a 39-19 lead at halftime and outscored the visitors 49-21 in the final 20 minutes. The VMI defense forced the Defenders into shooting just 28 percent (15-54) on the evening, including just 5% (1-19) from three-point distance. VMI outrebounded CSU 50-28 and shot 50 percent (32-64) from the floor.

Junior guard Kamdyn Curfman paced VMI with a game-high 16 points, hitting three three-point baskets to go with three assists and three steals. Senior center Jake Stephens posted 14 points and seven rebounds while Louis Tang had nine points and five rebounds. Tanner Mans compiled nine points and four rebounds, Honor Huff and Cooper Sisco each had eight points while Sean Conway had six points and a game-high 10 boards.

Ashton West led Clarks Summit with 12 points and Kelvin Chest had nine points. The contest was an exhibition game for the Defenders, who remain at 2-7 for the season.

The Keydets (4-4) travel to the West Coast this weekend for a pair of games. The Keydets play at the University of Portland Friday at 10 p.m. and at Seattle University Sunday at 4 p.m.

Quotes from Head Coach Dan Earl:
"I think we did enough things to win. It wasn't our best performance as far as attacking the game and being in the stance and communicating as much as possible. A couple of guys came ready to play and did the right things - Kamdyn Curfman being one and Brennan Watkins another - in the approach in the game and attacking it the right way. In the second half I think we did a better job defensively and communicating better. We have to continue to do that through the year."
