The Keydets posted their first win of the season Tuesday at Eastern Mennonite 3-1. VMI struck first just 4:46 into the game as
AJ Dale scored from
Gavin Miller. The Royals briefly tied the game on a tally from Cole Ours at 36:25 but
Jakub Mihulka gave VMI the lead again just before halftime on an assist from
Warner Collier.
Nathan Lam provided an insurance goal for the
Keydets at 61:40.
Broden Schull made two saves for VMI. The
Keydets held a 31-3 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Lam is tied for sixth in the conference with three scores on the year. Schull leads the SoCon with 49 saves and 4.9 stops per game.
Belmont defeated Bellarmine University 1-0 in non-conference play to move its record to 5-3-1. It was the Bruins fifth-straight home win, and they are 1-1 in conference action. Niccolo Dagnoni leads the team with three goals and four assists, ranking fifth in the SoCon in points per game, tied for sixth in goals per game and second in assists per game.
VMI (1-9/0-2 SoCon) travels to Mercer University for another conference game Saturday at 1 p.m.
