VMI Wrestling to face Bloomsburg Friday

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI wrestling team travels to Pennsylvania Friday to face Bloomsburg University in the Keydets' last non-conference match of the season.

The two teams last squared off in 2018 with the Huskies earning a 39-12 win.

VMI red-shirt senior Neal Richards won the individual title at 174 pounds on January 25 and the Keydet wrestling team finished third at the 2020 All-Academy Championships, hosted by Air Force. VMI finished fifth overall last year in the team standings and sixth in 2018.

Richards repeated as the champion at 174 pounds, defeating Spenser Carey (4-3) of Navy in the finals for the second-straight year. Five other Keydets placed at the championships. Freshman Zach Brown won a pair of matches at 197 and finished second. Freshman John McGarry pinned his foe from The Citadel in the third-place match in just 33 seconds at 125. Will Lawrence was third at 157 pounds, and Cliff Conway (133) and Chris Beck (285) each were fourth.

Following Friday's dual, VMI has a string of five-straight Southern Conference matches prior to the conference tournament on March 8.
