VMI Wrestling honors Senior Class but GWU Outlasts Keydets 23-15

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI wrestling team honored its four seniors Friday evening in Cormack Hall, but Gardner-Webb University won the last four matches to post a 23-15 Southern Conference victory over the Keydets. Chris Beck, Max Gallahan, Dom Gallo and Neal Richards were honored in a pre-match ceremony.

The action started at 149 pounds, where freshman Seth Fillers opened with a 13-2 major decision win. Junior Will Lawrence followed with a 10-7 victory at 157 pounds and Richards won via technical fall at 174 pounds 25-7 in 5:55.

Following a GWU win at 184 pounds, Zach Brown earned a 6-3 win at 197 pounds to put the Keydets ahead 15-6. The Runnin' Bulldogs finished strong however, closing out with a pin and two major decisions in the last four matches.

The senior class of Beck, Gallahan, Gallo and Richards have now won 189 matches combined in their careers.

The Keydets (4-11/1-2 SoCon) will host Campbell University Saturday at 4 p.m. back in Cormack Hall.
