VMI Wrestling Takes Down Hofstra at Mountaineer Quad
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The VMI wrestling team won one of its three matches Sunday at the Mountaineer Quad, hosted by West Virginia University.
The Keydets scored a 21-17 win against Hofstra University in the last of three matches on the day. Cliff Conway won 4-2 at 133, while Job Chishko defeated his Hofstra foe 2-0 at 149. Will Lawrence won 14-8 at 157, Max Gallahan was victorious 8-5 in overtime and Chris Beck won a 7-5 decision to seal the victory. Neal Richards won by forfeit at 174.
West Virginia defeated VMI in the opener 34-8. Richards won via technical fall at 174 pounds 23-7 in 5:28. Chris Beck scored a 2-1 victory at 285 pounds and Gallahan was defeated just 3-1 by sudden victory.
Edinboro University recorded a 32-6 win over VMI in the second match of the day. John McGarry pinned his opponent in 3:53 at 125 to open the match, but the Fighting Scots won the other nine matches. Conway dropped a tight 5-4 decision at 133 and Lawrence was defeated 5-4 at 157. Â
The Keydets will compete in the Southern Scuffle Jan. 1-2 at Chattanooga.
