Keydets Split Home Tri-Match with F&M and Davidson

LEXINGTON, Va. – Freshman 125-pounder John McGarry scored pins in both of his matches Saturday as the VMI wrestling team split a tri-match with visiting Franklin & Marshall and Davidson Colleges in the Keydets 2019-20 home opener. F&M led off the day with a 19-17 win over VMI, but the Keydets finished the afternoon with a 28-15 Southern Conference victory over Davidson. F&M also defeated Davidson 22-16.

Red-shirt senior Neal Richards, freshman Job Chishko and senior Max Gallahan also won both of their matches.

McGarry opened VMI's victory over Davidson with a fall in 2:47. Senior Dom Gallo won 7-1 at 141 and Chishko earned a 20-1 technical fall at 149. Will Lawrence grinded out a 5-2 win at 157 and Richards pinned his Davidson foe in 4:10. Gallahan won via technical fall at 184 18-3.  

Chishko took down his F&M opponent quickly in an extra session to win 6-4 (sudden victory). McGarry pinned his opponent in 5:55, Richards won 25-10 by technical fall and Gallahan won 8-3. The Diplomats won the last two matches to earn the team victory.

VMI (1-1) travels to Philadelphia next Sunday to compete in the Keystone Classic.
