LEXINGTON, Va. - Christian Shaner won the 100 fly, pacing the VMI men's swimming and diving team to a split of a tri-meet Saturday at Clark King Pool in Lexington.
Shaner touched the wall in 52.66 for the near two-second victory over his closest competitor, helping the Keydets (2-6) down the Ferrum Panthers 171-32. Washington & Lee defeated the Keydets 185-54, while the Generals also knocked off Ferrum 201-27.
John Kelly and Christian Purdy posted runner-up finishes at Saturday's meet, with Kelly doing so in the 100 free and Purdy in the 50 free. Kelly timed in at 48.95, while Purdy's 21.99 effort was ahead of third-place teammate Mason Sedlacek's 23.01.
In addition, the 200 medley relay team of Ben Fields, Steven Seay, Shaner and Christian Rowcliffe finished third with a time of 1:44.35.
VMI swimming and diving returns to action Feb. 18, as the team opens the CCSA Championships in Athens, Ga.
