Howard (1-11-1)
got off to a quick start, as the Bison fired five shots at VMI (0-9) keeper Adrian
Dominguez in the first 15 minutes. The sixth shot was good for the game's first
goal, as the home team jumped ahead 1-0 at the 17:20 mark.
The Keydets threatened at the
30-minute mark, when senior Jose Andueza, making his first start of the year, hit
the post with a shot attempt. Neither team mounted a further rally in the
opening period, and the Bison took their 1-0 lead to halftime.
Less than five minutes into the
opening half, that lead was doubled. On its second shot attempt of the second
half, Howard converted from the five-yard line to take a 2-0 lead. That goal
would prove to be the eventual game-winner.
In the 54th minute, the
Keydets had a threat deep in the Bison zone, but could not convert due to two crucial
saves by the Howard keeper.
The action was controlled mostly
in the midfield for the next 15 minutes, until the 71:26 mark when VMI's
Andueza blasted a loose ball by the Howard goaltender, cutting the lead in
half, 2-1. The goal was Andueza's first of the year.
The homestanding Bison would
answer, as they mounted a late threat and scored off a penalty kick in the 89th
minute of action. That goal accounted for the final margin, 3-1.

Hill, S.C., to battle
the Winthrop Eagles. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
