CHARLESTON, S.C.- The VMI wrestling team fell to 0-2 on the season in the Southern Conference, suffering a 28-10 setback to The Citadel on Tuesday evening at McAlister Field House. The Keydets fall to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the SoCon, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the league.

A trio of seniors accounted for the three Keydet wins on the evening. At 125 lbs., Jeremy Adams, returning to action for the first time in nearly two weeks, defeated Tyler Sim 2-0 to get the visitors the early 3-0 advantage. However, an 8-4 Ryan Goodsell loss at 133 to Anthony Easter tied the match, while a forfeit at 141 gave the Bulldogs a 9-3 advantage that they would not relinquish the rest of the night.

Redshirt senior David Metzler came up just short of bonus points in his 9-3 decision at 149 against Derek Royster, cutting the Bulldog lead to 9-6. But an 8-4 decision by Keith Koziel over VMI's John Held and an 11-3 major decision from Brendan Prince over VMI's Jayme Gordon gave The Citadel a 16-6 margin with four matches remaining.

Dustin McCabe posted an 11-3 major decision to try and jump start the Keydet comeback at 174 lbs., but it wasn't enoughh, as Curtis Moore was pinned at 184 by Darius Caldwell in 2:35, running the advantage to 22-10 in favor of the Bulldogs. Ronnie Ellsworth suffered a 6-2 setback at 197, while Leon Barrow lost a 5-2 decision at 285 to bring the final tally to 28-10.

In the second match of the evening, #19 Chattanooga remained perfect in the Southern Conference, defeating The Citadel 32-12.

The VMI wrestling team returns to action on Friday evening, hosting their first Southern Conference dual this season, as Davidson comes to The Thunderdome for a 7:30 p.m. start.
