BLACKSBURG, Va.- The VMI Swimming & Diving team fell in their final dual meet Saturday afternoon, dropping a 118-104 result to Virginia Tech at War Memorial Pool. The Keydets fell to 3-5 in dual matches, while the Hokies improved to 6-5.
The VMI 200 yard freestyle relay team took first place, as the team of freshman Hank Lee (Arlington, Va./Hargrave Military Institute), freshman Peter Blades (Almond, N.Y./Alfred-Almond ), sophomore Stewart Craft (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin) and freshman Chris Beyer (Reston, Va./Flint Hill) turned in a time of 1:36.57 for the victory.
Craft and Sheldon each won individual events as well, with Craft swimming the 100 yard freestyle in 51.67 seconds, and Beyer taking the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:25.96.
Also pitching in for the Keydets were sophomore Jason Webb (Bowie, Md./Dematha Catholic), who took the 100 yard backstroke in 58.82, while sophomore Paul Sheldon (Glen Allen, Va./Hermitage) won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.66.
The Keydets' women return to action on Tuesday afternoon, when they travel to Roanoke to take on Hollins 6 p.m. The men will wrap up their season on Feb. 18-20, traveling to Landover, Md. to compete in the Northeast Conference Championships.
