Highlanders Halt Keydet Basketball, 63-46

RADFORD, VA. - Chris Goodin scored 18 points and Whit Holcomb-Faye added 17 to lead Radford University men's basketball to a 63-46 win over Big South Conference foe VMI Wednesday at the Dedmon Center.

With the win RU moves to 10-10 overall and 6-4 in Big South play, good for sole possession of third place in the League standings behind Liberty and High Point. VMI falls to 5-15 overall, 3-7 in Conference.

Goodin, whose 18 points was one point shy of tying a career high, joined Aaron Gill and Brandon Jeffers with five rebounds each to lead the Highlanders.

Radee Skipworth was the only Keydet player in double digits, tallying 13. Matt Murrer, who also had eight points, led VMI on the boards with eight rebounds. Richard Little dished out a game-high seven assists.

Radford took an early lead in the first half, scoring the games first five points and using a 13-2 run over the first 10 minutes of the first half to establish a lead it would never relinquish. Jack Castleberry broke the Keydet scoring drought with a jumper at the 9:41 mark to close the gap to 15-4. The Highlander offense, keyed by Goodin's 15 first-half points, pushed the lead to 35-21 at the break.

RU continued to extend its lead in the second half, pulling ahead by 23 on a free throw by Anthony Brown. The Keydets would close to within 17 points in the final minute of play on a layup by Murrer, but they could get no closer.

The Radford will host Winthrop Saturday night at 7:00 p.m., while VMI will step out of Conference play at James Madison Monday at 7:00 p.m. (Story Courtesy RU Sports Information).
