VMI Swimming and Diving Defeats Howard; Loses at Georgetown

Washington, D.C. -- The VMI swimming and diving team (4-4) defeated Howard University, 137-76, but lost to Georgetown, 150-78 at a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon at Georgetown.

Freshman Braden Orr (Pennington, N.J./ Hopewell Valley) was VMI's lone first place-finisher, taking top honors in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.92 seconds. Orr placed third in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 50.87 seconds.

Sophomore Ken Rhee (Northridge, Calif./ John F. Kennedy) placed second in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 50.76 seconds.

Freshman Kevin Vik (Eagle River, Alaska/ Chingiak) placed second in the 200-yard freestyle event, touching the wall in a time of 1:52.39. He took third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:05.02.

Junior Jim Driggs (Mechanicsville, Va./ Atlee) took the silver medal in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.29.

Sophomore Dane Elles (Crosby, Texas/ St. Thomas) placed third in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 23.43 seconds.

The Keydets will swim again against Davidson in Radford, Va. on January 31. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
