Kansas City, Mo. -- VMI wrestlers Matt Erwin (South Vienna, Ohio/ St. Paris Graham) and Adam Britt (Mechanicsville, Va./ Atlee) have both been eliminated from the NCAA Wrestling Championships at Kemper Arena. Erwin lost his second and final match on Friday morning, while Britt was eliminated on Thursday night. The Keydets tied for 46th place out of 73 teams. Oklahoma State won the team title.
Erwin, a senior 174-pounder defeated Hunter Guenot of Bloomsburg, 2-1 in the first round on Thursday. In the second round, Erwin lost a tough 4-3 match to Hofstra's Ralph Everett. He was then pinned by Michigan's Pat Owen in 3:34 of his first consolation match on Friday. Erwin ends his career in a tie for third place for career victories at VMI (109) with Leslie Apedoe.
Britt, a senior 157-pounder fell to 11th-seeded Nate Wachter of Penn State, 4-3 in his tournament's first round. He then came back to score a technical fall (16-1) over Millersville's Craig Pequinot in 7:00 in the consolation pigtail round. Britt was eliminated by Rob Belville of Sacred Heart, 6-3 in his next consolation match. He ends his career as VMI's all-time win leader with 120.
