Washington, D.C. -- The VMI swimming and diving team (3-3) defeated Catholic University, 109-94 on Saturday afternoon at the Catholic Pool.
The Keydets won six events on the day.
Freshman Kevin Vik (Eagle River, Alaska/ Chingiak) won two individual events. He won the 200-yard freestyle event in 1:51.51 and then came back to win the 500-yard freestyle event in 5:04.08.
Freshman Kimball Yamasaki (Freemont, Calif./ Mission San Jose) took top honors in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.58 seconds.
Junior Will Butt (Bedford, Va./ Liberty) won the 1,000-yard freestyle event, clocking a time of 10:51.90.
Sophomore Bart Payne (Mechanicsville, Va./ Atlee) won the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 2:08.10.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team made up of freshman Braden Orr (Pennington, N.J./ Hopewell Valley), Vik, junior Sean Matson (Mechanicsville, Va./ Atlee) and senior Adam Sheldon (Glen Allen, Va./ Hermitage) won its event with a time of 1:33.88.
VMI will participate in the Randolph-Macon Invitational on December 5 and 6.
