LEXINGTON, Va. -- The VMI soccer team played to a 0-0 tie with cross-town rival Washington and Lee (5-6-2) at a cold and blustery Patchin Field on Thursday afternoon.
The Keydets (1-6-3) outshot the Generals, 13-6 and but could not find the back of the net as W&L senior goalkeeper Tim Foley made seven saves, including two in the final seconds of regulation. VMI sophomore goalkeeper Brian Douglas (Virginia Beach, Va.) made six saves of his own.
Of VMI's 13 shots, five came the foot of sophomore midfielder Austin Williams (Fairfax, Va./ Robinson).
"This was a hard-fought match between both teams," said VMI head coach
Stephen Ross. "We created opportunities, but their keeper (Foley) made some great saves. We did everything we needed to do, but put the ball in the net.
VMI will face arch-rival The Citadel on Saturday morning at Patchin Field. Kick-off is set for 11:00. The Generals will host Catholic at 1:00 on Saturday afternoon.
