LEXINGTON, Va. – The Davidson College swimming and diving teams defeated VMI Saturday afternoon, 143-79 in men's competition and 194-42 in the women's meet. It was the season opener for VMI and the first varsity swimming competition in Goodall Pool inside the new VMI Aquatics Center.
The Keydets had several good performances, including freshman Pedro Robertson winning the men's 1000 free in 10:15.71.
VMI Men's Top Performers:
*The 200 free relay team of Matt Picard, Dalton Cosner, Sam Castle and Chino Vera won the race in 1:25.86
*Picard and Vera took second and third in the 50 free in 21.41 and 21.51, respectively. Picard and Cosner placed 2-3 in the 100 free in 47.39 and 47.44
*Ethan Griffith finished second in the 200 IM in 1:57.08 and the 200 breast (2:11.42)
*Elijah Fields was second in the 200 fly in 1:58.62
*Castle finished the 200 back in 1:57.86 to take second
*The 400 yard relay team of Tinn Nguyen, Chase Lane, Max Brunner and Collin Marks finished third in 3:36
*Cosner took fourth in the 200 free in 1:46.31 and Tee Bowles was fourth in the 500 free in 5:06.07
*Lane Jones placed third in both the 1 meter diving (189.90) and 3 meter diving (186.85) events and Craig Swain set personal bests on both boards
VMI Women's Top Performers:
*Valerie Tonnu was second in the 200 fly, finishing in 2:31.08 and was third in the 200 back (2:15.75)
*Rachel Greathouse placed third in both the 200 free (2:01.14) and 500 free (5:22.31)
*Anna Grace Adams placed fourth in the 1000 free in 11:33.40
*Walden Wilder took fourth in the 200 IM in 2:17.71 and fourth in the 200 breast in 2:38.14
*Noelle Tong was fifth in the 50 free in 25.91
*Kate Taylor, Carter Wasser, Jillian Maher and Julia Ward finished the 200 free relay in 1:45.19
*Courtney Novotny finished the 100 free in 57.34 to place sixth
*Ella Davenport was fourth in both the 1 and 3 meter diving competitions
