Men’s T&F completes VMI Winter Relays with personal bests

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men's track and field team completed the 2024 VMI Winter Relays with excellent marks as evidenced by new personal benchmarks set Saturday at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

Isaiah Blount placed first in the heptathlon with 4988 points after winning two of the seven events (pole vault, 4.70m and shot put – 13.10m) and placing second in the long jump at 6.45m. He also placed third in the 60m hurdles and fourth in the 1,000 meter in 2:55.12 to yield the top overall finish out of seven combined events.

In the mile run, sophomore Ben Hagerich came in second overall with a personal-best time of 4:19.97.

Tyrus James earned a PR in the pole vault with a fourth-place height of 3.82 meters.

Other Top Finishes
*In the 3000m, freshman Colin Crenshaw led the VMI pack with a PR time of 9:19.98 for 10th place. Andrew Hirneisen also earned a PR for 12th place in 9:25.62
*Christian Larvie led the way for VMI in the high jump with a ninth-place height of 1.71m
*Freshman Rafe Clendenin led the throwers in the shot put with a fifth-place distance of 14.24m. Hunter Davis placed seventh at 14.01m, and Elisha Williams earned a PR at 13.41m for eighth place. Christian Hyman also registered a PR with a distance of 12.80m for 12th place.
