VMI Men place fourth at SoCon Indoor T&F Championships

LEXINGTON, Va.
– The VMI men's track and field team capped off a strong indoor season by placing fourth overall at the 2024 Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Sunday at the VMI Corps Physical Training Facility.
 
The Keydets came in fourth with 109 points over the two-day event, just three points behind third-place Furman. Samford won the team title with 188 points while Western Carolina placed second with 121.5 points.

All-SoCon Honors
*Senior Keyandre Midgett won the triple jump for the second year in a row by placing first with a new personal record distance and CPTF facility record of 15.57m to earn All-SoCon honors
*Senior Andrew Granger won the men's weight throw for a second year in a row with a new PR distance of 17.46m to earn the individual title and All-SoCon recognition
*Freshman thrower Rafe Clendenin earned All-SoCon honors for the second time in as many days by placing second behind Granger in the weight throw with a new PR distance of 15.60m. Clendenin placed second in the shot put Saturday for his first All-SoCon honors
*Hurdler Liam McBride again reset the school record for the third time this indoor season in the 60m hurdles with a new PR time of 7.96 seconds to earn All-SoCon honors
*Seniors Nick Brown and Richard Edwards earned All-SoCon by placing second and third, respectively, in the 400m. Brown finished with a PR time of 47.74 seconds, while Edwards also earned a new PR in 48.21 seconds
*The 4x400 team of Nick Brown, Keyandre Midgett, Edwards, and Xander Topos earned All-SoCon honors by placing third in 3:19.57
 
Excellent representation
Sophomore Ben Hagerich came in fifth in the men's 800m with a new PR time of 1:55.00.
 
Freshman Kevin Shank arrived in ninth in the 5K  with a new PR time of 15:03.23
 
In the triple jump, senior Charles Male came in seventh overall in 13.48m for a new personal record
 
Isaiah Blount placed fourth in the heptathlon combining four 4783 for the seven events. He came in first in the shot put at 13.19 meters, third in the 1000m (2:43) and third in the pole vault (4.30m) en route to the finish.

We will spend a couple days reviewing, recharging and reloading for the outdoor season starting at the Fred Hardy Invitational at in Richmond on March 22."
