Track and Field kicks off season with Intrasquad Meet

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI track and field teams got off to a great start to the season by earning multiple personal best times and distances Saturday at the VMI Intrasquad Meet held at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

The red team came out victorious with 50 points while the black team finished with 36.

"We had some great competition and impressive performances during our Intrasquad meet today. I am impressed with Coach Williams and Coach Wisecarver assembling teams that created a fun, competitive environment that we enjoyed. Our team is excited to see where they are with their training, and we hope to take that positive momentum and apply it to our exams and training over the break."

Meet Highlights
*Freshman Rafe Clendenin (black team) threw a shot put distance of 13.81 meters
*Freshman Cameron Thomas (black team) logged a 4.85m height in the pole vault
*Black team members Nick Brown (50 seconds) and Richard Edwards (50.05 seconds) came in first and second place, respectively, in the 400 meter
*The red team responded with weight thrower Andrew Granger – last year's SoCon champ for the event - coming in first with a toss of 16.05m. In the 800m, Xander Topos (1:58.26) and Ben Hagerich (1:58.75) were the top finishers for the red team
*The red team continued its push with freshman Kevin Shank placing first in the mile run in 4:26.15 and was bolstered by junior Jeremiah Wilks winning the 60m sprint
*Charles Male won the long jump with a personal-best distance of 7.14m and freshman Zach Denton followed close behind at 7.04m, also a lifetime best
*Isaiah Blount earned a personal-bests in both the pole vault and 60m hurdles
