400 Free Relay Record Paces VMI on Final Day of CCSA Champs

ATHENS, Ga.  - The 400-yard freestyle relay squad set a new school record, leading VMI women's swimming and diving on the final day of the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championships, held Saturday in Athens, Ga.

The foursome of Mackenzie Perkins, Ally Van Valen, Elise Reed and Justina Dunne timed in at 3:48.17 to set the new school record in the 400 free relay. It was VMI's sixth varsity record of these championships, with either Van Valen or Dunne having played a role in all of them. It also broke the previous VMI best by over seven seconds.

The Keydets finished up the meet in 12th place, finishing with 47 points. VMI defeated North Carolina A&T by three points, while finishing directly behind 10th place Radford (117) and 11th place Howard (84). Florida Gulf Coast won the meet championship (712) with Liberty finishing second (609). With the result, the Keydets wrap up the 2012-13 season having not only won two dual meets for the first time in program history, but having set 10 combined freshman and varsity school records.
